just called and they are still closed!!! i talked to someone and she said they will probably re-open on november! looking forward to their opening day!!! missing their chili verde!!!

It is NOT closed. They're doing renovations. This place was recommended to me by my best friend for their tamales masa. I almost didn't call because Yelp has it as being closed but I thought I'd call anyways. They ARE open! I placed my order over the phone and a few hours later I went and picked it up. I past it the first time around because it was dark and there was no lights, but I called them up and they told me I had to drive to the back. Second time around I was able to drive in and go around back, picked up my 20 lbs of masa and the tamales were a hit for Thanksgiving. I will most definitely order again.

So yummy! Food was fresh and on point. The tortillas are handmade, that's why I came. I had the chicken fajitas and they reminded me of my moms cooking. My girlfriend has the carnitas and she said they remind her of her dads, BOMB, it's hard to find a place like this. Home cooking! We'll be back.

My favorite place to get Mexican food... been coming here all my life... my favorite is the green fajita chicken enchiladas , love the rice and beans, really good chips and salsa... great customer service that makes you feel like family every time.

Tried this place today. Built into the store/market. Plenty of seating available. You order your food then pay for it, then sit down and they bring your food. Salsa and chip bar was great! Everything was freshly made. They make their own chips too! Ordered side of beans, rice, and chilaquiles. Beans tasted as if my mom made them. Rice and chilaquiles was okay. Had the carnitas tacos, they were bomb! Aqua frescas were very good! Fresh as well. Tried the melon! My friend had horchata. Very calm and relaxing atmosphere. Everyone checked in with us and asked if we needed anything else. Came and got our dirty plates and gave us containers very fast. Greta customer service. Would recommend for lunch or quick dinner meal. Looks like they make fresh tortillas to take home as well. And also have various soups and stews to try on a cold day.

This place hasn't changed much since then 90s , it could use a facelift ...its a bit dirty, but the food is good.

Every weekend I come home, I have to come here no matter what. So I've recently tried the chicken flautas with crema and queso fresco which was good. I really enjoyed it a lot. Chicken is really good has good flavor, just perfect. The crema and queso fresco went with it perfectly but I also add the red chile next to chips to it. Chile is definitely not from a can or jar which is a plus for me. Definitely one of my favorites besides the mole. I've also ordered the quesadilla, which next time I'm going to order it with the shredded chicken same one they use for flautas. I have yet to try other things like enchiladas, tortas and so on. I keep forgetting to add avocado every time I order something. Service is awesome. The ladies working there are great. Something they need to work on is getting a central air system. Because it does get hot there with the kitchen being next to it. I'm sure that'll help customers and the workers feel a little better. It's a fixer upper place but I love that it's a very humble establishment. They put their best in their food and customer service and that goes a very long way. It's a family establishment and I love that also. Arturito listens to what people say and he is dedicated to make things work. Very polite and always greets everyone with this great personality. My go to place for mexican food. Gets very busy on sundays Cant wait to try more foods.

Anyone who doesn't give this place five stars doesn't deserve to eat there, period. The carnitas are absolute fire, bolillo is fire, fresh chips are fire. This is absolutely the best place to eat in the state of California, hands down.

Don Juan foods is one of those spots most people will never find. It's tucked off the wayside of Crows Landing in Modesto, so it's located in a mix of the boonies/hood. The location alone might turn most folks off, but being a Stockton resident it felt more like walking into one of the neighborhood carnicerias in town. However....this place is way more awesome. First off, Don Juans has a quirky set-up. It's like the owner looked up all the requirements of "great dive food establishment" and applied them completely to his business. It's basically a small grocery store/deli/restaurant. Upon entry, all you see are small aisles lined with groceries.Once you turn towards the back of the store you'll notice fresh made Mexican pastries lining the sidewall and a deli counter in the back (usually with a large line).. Next to the deli counter is a stand where fresh tortillas are made (both flour and corn), a cash register to tally purchases and a large dining room off to the side for people to enjoy their meal. The strangest thing about Don Juan is that you can't just order food in the dining room. It's simply just a room setup with a few TVs and a live performer playing keyboard and singing Mexican songs. I've been in many Mexican restaurants and had the wandering mariachis come sing at my table, but it's a totally different experience to have someone setup with a PA system singing Mexican music (and extremely well at that) in a Mexican grocery store/deli/restaurant. It's rather surreal, but very entertaining. The food is everything from Menudo (Tripe, hominy provided only on request), Birria (goat or beef), Carne Asada, Chile Verde, Milanesa, Fried Chicken, Chicharones, and a ton of other traditional Mexican dishes I've never even heard or tried. Apparently the Carnitas are awesome, as they had one line specifically to purchase them and it stayed busy for an hour straight. I had Menudo and tasted the birria and both were great. Homemade tortillas were also very awesome and they provided plenty of them to enjoy my meal with. Overall, this place is well worth a visit at least once. This is Mexican food at it's most authentic and tasty. Don't expect a perfect experience. The lines are long. The setup bizarre. Spanish is the dominant language, but if you're like me you can point and nod enthusiastically at the food you desire. Plus, you can enjoy live music on a Saturday morning!
